1960. Vintage silver medallion pendant, made for the tourist market in Mexico. Features a Jaguar cat face framed with full-bodied, spotted jaguars, representing Tezcatlipoca. Originally a deity from the Toltec peoples, Tezcatlipoca was primarily seen as the god of night and sorcery, as well as the patron god of kings and warriors. He was also believed to be a prolific shapeshifter, more often transforming into a jaguar, his spotted skin and fur representing the starry night sky. The medallion-style pendant has the lozenge 800 silver fineness mark on the back that dates to 1959. Measures approximately 53 x 48 mm.
