A marvelous 3 1/2 yards (plus) of vintage Hawaiian floral fabric. This cotton fabric features a high-sheen print of blossoming flowers in aqua blue, blue green, Harvest Gold, Royal Blue, and white. A marvelous and unexpected feature of this fabric is a floral jacquard weave. VHY fabrics were loved not only because of their dynamic colors and patterns, but also for their colorfastness.

Conrad Von Hamm, originally from Bremen, Germany, moved to Hawaii in 1890 at the age of 20. He began his career as a clerk for Alexander Young, a prosperous local entrepreneur from Scotland. Over time, Von Hamm married Young's daughter and partnered with Young and his brother-in-law, Archibald, to establish Von Hamm-Young Corp.
After Alexander Young's death in 1910 and Archibald's passing in 1925, Conrad assumed control of the company. He greatly expanded the business, which diversified into various industries including textiles, wholesale goods, machinery, and automobiles. Notably, Von Hamm-Young became Hawaii's first used car dealership. In 1964, the company began producing textiles under the name The Hawaiian Corporation, also known as Hawaiian Textiles.
Following Conrad Von Hamm's death in 1965, the company underwent a tumultuous period marked by a stock market battle. As a result, several smaller divisions merged to create Hawaii's first conglomerate. However, the company eventually faced financial difficulties and was dismantled following a bankruptcy liquidation.
Textiles bearing the VHY label are from the 1950s and 1960s, while those with the THC tag were produced during the 1960s and 1970s. Textiles labeled Hawaiian Textiles with the THY notation date from 1964-1969, which is when this fabric was produced.
