About This Vintage Postcard

This elegant early 1900s postcard captures the Chateau de la Petite Malmaison in Rueil-Malmaison, once the residence of Queen Maria Christina of Spain. Built originally for Empress Josephine, the palace is shown reflected in a serene pond with white swans. This is a classic example of a Timbre Cote Vue (TVC) card, where the green 5-centime Sower stamp was placed on the front. The front also features a decorative purple eagle crest, which is the museum or estate mark specifically from the Chateau de la Malmaison.

Additional Information

The back of this card is addressed to Monsieur Leon Hemme at 93 Rue Mouffetard in Paris. The sender included a brief, friendly note: Amitié, Henri (Friendship, Henri). Interestingly, the stamp was applied at the top center and folded over the edge, a common quirk of the TVC trend. Rue Mouffetard, where the recipient lived, is one of the oldest and most famous market streets in Paris. The purple eagle stamp on the front adds a unique secondary layer of historical interest, linking the card directly to the legacy of the Malmaison estate.
