1909 vintage postcard of the historic Weapons Factory in Toledo, Spain. The Weapons Factory in Toledo, Spain, known as the Fábrica de Armas de Toledo, has a fascinating history. Established in 1761 by King Carlos III, it was initially set up to produce swords and other weapons for the Spanish army. Over time, it evolved to manufacture firearms, becoming a significant supplier for the Spanish military.

The factory is located near the Tagus River, which provided the necessary hydraulic power for its operations. Toledo itself has a long-standing reputation for high-quality steel and sword-making craftsmanship, dating back to Roman times and continuing through the Middle Ages.
