1900 Frederick the Wise by Durer Art Postcard

Frederick the Wise, Elector of Saxony, an early patron of Dürer, was the subject of a print made a year before his death, based on a silverpoint drawing by Dürer.

The portrait includes symbols of Saxony's coat of arms and a Latin inscription praising Frederick's piety. Frederick, who protected Martin Luther after his excommunication, is remembered for safeguarding him in Wartburg Castle.
