1906. Gaiety Girl Gladys Cooper in a romanticized fantasy image. Founded in the 1890s, Gaiety Girls were respectable, elegant young ladies, unlike the actresses from London's earlier musical burlesques. Gladys Cooper went on to have a successful lifetime career on the stage and in film.
This antique silver bromide vintage real photo is marked J. W. Berlin, who specialized in stage, opera, and silent film star portrait cards. The company was located at 14 Kirschenstr (Church Street) Charlottenburg, Berlin, Germany. Its location was near many theatrical and entertainment establishments, so many of its clients were stage and silent film stars. This would look great framed or make a nice addition to any collection.
