1917 Happy Returns of Day Gelatin Birthday Postcard

1917. Many Happy Returns of the Day. Embossed, gilded large letter greeting with an inky black background. Stunning rose and framed in delicate gilded vines. 

"Many happy returns of the day" is wishing a person with a birthday will have many more of them, i.e. that their birthday will return many times and that they will live a long life. 

This card has a rare gelatin coating. Expected cracking in the coating can be seen with the naked eye, which is expected in antique cards with a glossy gelatin finish. This postcard would make an excellent addition to any collection and would look great framed.
