Post WW2 1945. Lalique France Perche Poisson Car Mascot is modeled from Rene Lalique’s original catalog of hood ornaments model number #1158 Perche or Perch. The Perche Poisson Car Mascot was made to sit on a car radiator mount as a luxury ornament in the 1920s. At the time it was made it cost approximately 25 guineas which is well over £1,000 ($1265 USD) today. They were illuminated by a lightbulb underneath which would shine through the glass, giving it a warm glow at night. The faster the automobile went the brighter it shone.

René Lalique created his stunning car mascot (Bouchons de Radiateur) designs between 1925 and 1931. René’s factory, Verrerie d’Alsace, in Wingen-sur-Mode, was forced to close due to the German occupation of the Alsace region. René died in May of 1945, so he did not live to see the end of the war. Following WW2, his son Marc resumed production of his father’s famous mascot designs using the original steel molds that had survived the war. Examination of the signature on the base indicates this piece was produced during the post-war period from an original mold that survived the war.

Signed "Lalique France" on the base, shown in images. Superb condition, having been stored untouched in a dark wooden cabinet for many decades.

Approximate measurements:
6 1/4 inches long
