K49039 #9 March 1979. 70 pages. Future Life was a science, science fiction, and fantasy magazine. This issue includes Harlan Ellison's interview, DEVO: DNA Rockers, the re-making of Star Trek, 007 in Orbit, Vincent Difate's color portfolio, and Ray Bradbury's Martian Chronicles on TV.

In March 1979, Future Life marked its first anniversary with a name change (the reason is unclear) and a few format updates. The magazine lost eight pages and upgraded all its black-and-white, uncoated pages to glossy ones, now printing in black-and-white with one additional color. The cover price rose by 30 cents to $2.25, marking the second price hike within a year. Howard Zimmerman, the original editor, left (though he continued as editor of Starlog), and co-editors Ed Naha and Robin Snelson took over. Carolyn Henson, head of the L-5 Society, became a regular columnist.

This issue features a cover painting by Vincent DeFate and a table of contents illustration by Ron Miller. In his Output column, Kerry O'Quinn notes the growing readership of Future Life. Input letters include greetings from Arthur C. Clarke in Sri Lanka and a defense of the magazine’s staff from Patrick Daniel O'Neill, responding to Joanna Russ' criticism of sexism. The Databank section includes updates on various space-related topics, such as Senator Harrison Schmitt’s plans, a new language translator, and plans to move an iceberg to the Middle East.

Other highlights include Robin Snelson’s report on Disney’s EPCOT community, an interview with Harlan Ellison, a profile of the band Devo by S.B. Bellows, and a conversation with Gene Roddenberry about "The Re-Making of Star Trek." Carolyn Henson's column on the space business offers advice on becoming a billionaire, while Bob McCoy discusses science books. The issue also features Ludek Pesek’s artwork in a centerfold gallery, a tribute to Albert Einstein’s 100th birthday by Ed Naha, and an article on The Martian Chronicles TV series.

Future Life also asks prominent figures like Joanna Russ and Joe Haldeman for their thoughts on gender roles in the future, and Jesco von Puttkamer examines terraforming. The issue includes a preview of Moonraker, an interview with artist Vincent DeFate, and a guest column by Jacques-Yves Cousteau on whether space technology can help the oceans.

As Harlan Ellison puts it in his interview with Jeffrey Elliot, "For me, the act of creating, the act of building a dream, is the most exciting thing I could possibly do. Writing for me is a holy chore."
